This book serves as a bridge between abstract mathematical thinking and real life problem analysis. Most books on combinatorial optimization are heavy in mathematics with miniature real life situations as examples. This book begs to differ. Each of the 15 chapters deals separately with individual companies and their optimization needs. All chapters are relevant to any mid to medium sized corporations. Many organizations are looking towards cost cutting measures and have started looking into optimization and this book will be a great help for any operations manager/researcher. This book can also be used in Graduate level courses in advanced applied optimization. Do not expect this book to be a primer in combinatorial optimization, turn to Combinatorial Optimization: Algorithms and Complexity
by Christos H. Papadimitriou and Kenneth Steiglitz for a brush up of fundamentals. All things said this book is worth its weight in gold.
A word to the author/publisher, please come down on the price and it's high time for a second edition or part 2.
