This is not for the happy go lucky requirements gatherer. It is a detailed breakdown of everything requirements engineering for software intensive systems. It will make you think.
The book describes the KAOS method in detail and the author uses Objectiver as the modeling tool. Sometimes a book is not worth buying when you are not using the tool. That is not the case with this book. It is packed with valuable advice and examples.
Reading the book did prompt me to download Objectiver. Very cool tool, but it is also complex. Complex is not a bad thing when you consider this book is about an engineering discipline, and engineering is needed because you are trying to do something complex.
The author covers the fundamentals of Requirements Engineering in detail in the first part of the book, Building System Models for Requirements Engineering in part two, and then Reasoning About System Models in part three.
This book does exactly what the title says, it shows you how to go from System Goals to UML Models to Software Specifications.
If you are building complex systems, this book is definitely for you.
I highly recommend this book, and have nothing negative to say about.

This book gives a great overview of the techniques, terminology, and approaches to building reliable systems and products. The techniques given there come from a long line and heritage in the telephony world for building real and highly-reliable systems. The strength of this book is that it explains the process that needs to be followed, as well as includes enough details of the major techniques and models so that you can determine which ones will apply to your project. This book pairs nicely with "Design for Reliability" Design for Reliability: Information and Computer-Based Systems which focuses more on building computer-based systems and IT systems. This book covers the overall problem and techniques without burying the reader in the details or mathematics of any particular technique, while still given enough details to understand the value and use of that technique.

This book is far superior to any other ANSYS FE book. It has something like 40 examples and the cd includes the batch input files. Other books on the subject (see Moaeveni) lack the # of example problems or batch file processing tutorials. Great for beginers and intermediate users who want to get the most out of ANSYS.

This book was clearly written by someone for whom English was not their first language. I admire the attempt -- I sincerely doubt I could write a book in a language that is not my own -- but the book definitely should have been read and tested by some technically-savvy individuals for whom English is their primary language. Since such testing apparently did not occur, this book is very difficult to read. I can only assume that the frequently-used statement of "without the loss of generosity" was actually supposed to be "without the loss of generality," as I never really expected Simulink to be generous.
The examples appear to be useful, but they are arranged in a confusing manner, making them hard to follow.
Compared to many Simulink books, this one is rather inexpensive. I'm currently wishing, however, that I'd splurged a bit more by purchasing a more expensive but, hopefully, better written book.

Pedagogically, Mortenson's presentation is easy for a reader to follow. Accompanied by generous numbers of diagrams. He gives understandable interpretations of how matrices are used to represent different types of transformations. The underlying geometrical rationale is clear.
En route, the reader is gently introduced to group theory. For finite groups. A way to bind geometry and symmetry. Interestingly, the notation he uses for the symmetries and groups is Schonflies. In 1982, this was already being phased out by crystallographers, in favour of International notation. But maybe mathematicians prefer the older style.
There is also a quick discussion of tensors. Giving rise to contra and covariant vectors. And the metric tensor is introduced as a key idea. All this is a jumping off point for physicists studying General Relativity, though it is not actually mentioned by name.

A good mix of not-too-hard math with practical examples. Good review of probability and statistics. Down-to-earth readable style. My only complaint: A very skimpy index. Overall a great introduction to stochastic processes and their simulation.

Good book. Covers all the basics of environmental science. I had a class with Dr. Ramaswami, one of the authors. From what I understand each author wrote different parts of the book, but it flows very well. It's definitely one of the better reference books I had to read in graduate school.

I enjoyed reading this book. The tone was light and the same detailed real-world style examples continued throughout the book. The four types of business models covered were explained simply and clearly. Using the example diagrams, I have begun to create my own business models. Having done business and technical modeling on and off since 1991, this book was a great introduction to some new types of models, the emerging standards, and some excellent tips on techniques for activities that take place around the models such as workshops and simulation. I appreciated the non-technical way that the models were presented, such that both a business-person and a hard-core techie could both get value from the same model. The authors' website promises to provide more details, including updates on tools, and they have been kind in helping me to identify some available tools that might fit my needs.
I am certainly in a better position to incorporate business models into my new and existing business ventures from studying this book.

I've been waiting for a book like this. This is the second SolidWorks book that I purchased from these authors in the past year. They know how to teach and to present complex material in a simple and straight forward manner. This is the most detail SolidWorks Assembly modeling book I have ever seen.
Both Bottom up and Top down (my favorite) assembly methods with one and two levels are addressed along with design tables, equations, replacement components, external references, etc. The only thing I would like to see that is not in the book is additional detail information on Assembly Visualization. I final understand Layout Sketches and Blocks after reading this book. Great Assembly book. I would highly recommend this text. There are assembly models from 3 components to 100's.

Before this book was published, Wolf & Tauber's book was the only good reference I had. Plummer's new book has a thorough review of basic principles, very well updated parts on current manufacturing equipments (Wolf's book also has extensive coverage in this respect). The best part in my opinion is oxidation & diffusion parts where the authors are one of the leaders in current research. The book not only focuses on the specific details, but also gives an integrated view of the whole CMOS fabrication process, which I enjoyed a lot.
I strongly recommend this book for students who want to learn basics of IC fabrication and also professional engineers who needs a good and well updated reference.
