Disclosure: I know Dr. Howard and have met Dr. Musto. I have taught courses using this text.
This is an excellent resource for beginners learning SolidWorks. It is not a comprehensive reference. The text takes a step-by-step approach which would be boring for experienced users.
The text covers the major techniques clearly. It efficiently guides readers to and through the key difficulties experienced by beginners, with simple, straightforward examples. Not only is good advice offered, but it is explained sufficiently for beginners to recognize it as good advice, and remember it.
I consider the text a superb resource for readers who are learning engineering design and analysis concurrently with solid modeling.
I consider the text a good resource for skilled analysts from other fields who desire to learn SolidWorks in order to apply it and accomplish project goals. Such users may find the pace too slow, but this text will guide them to basic proficiency faster than a comprehensive text. Working through the text is likely to save such users at least as much time and frustration as it consumes.
The text is not a suitable resource for designers experienced with other solid modeling tools desiring to learn SolidWorks. The pace is too slow for such users, and it does not take guide them to "Wizard" level proficiency.
