This is a excellent book focusing on modeling of modern materials and structures. It starts with thin layers and progresses toward periodic structures, composites and metamaterials. In fact the last chapter on metamaterials is brief but especially lucid. The presentation is well suited toward engineering applications. The book certainly requires a good background in engineering electromagnetics. The title is somewhat deceiving as it is not a book on modeling of all types of electromagnetic systems. For example, the book does not cover typical antenna applications. This is not a gripe but a clarification. Overall, I consider this book invaluable for better understanding of modern engineered materials and their engineering application.

A treatment of analytical modelling in applied electromagnetics, focusing on the nature of models in radio engineering. It examines topics such as metamaterials, photonic bandgaps and artificial impedance surfaces, and applies these concepts to a wide range of applications. The author provides working examples that are mainly directed to antenna applications, but the modelling methods and results can be used for other practical devices as well.
