(More customer reviews)This was the first book I bought when I started modeling 2 years ago, and I still go back to read it some more. The chapters on painting and weathering also appear in his other excellent book, "How to Build Dioramas". You might want to get this instead if you dabble in different types of scale model building. If you're an armor aficionado like I am, this book is a must, even if you already have a few models under your belt. There are lots of helpful tips, especially on scratchbuilding details and accessories. This has been written some time ago, and you may find some of his techniques a bit dated, but this has withstood the test of time gracefully.

Building and Painting Scale Figures (Scale Modeling Handbook) Review

(More customer reviews)This book appears very readable and practical. I spent 2 hours reading the first third and felt my purchase was well worth it. Many quality color examples of scaled miniature soldiers from many historical eras, mostly pre WWI.

Modeling Classic Combat Aircraft Review

(More customer reviews)The main value of this book comes from its three refference tables of paint colors, one for general country colors, and the other two tables for US, and Japan colors. All the tables list six possible manufacturers for the paint color and gives the manufacturer's stock number if they product that color.
The other chapter's simply appear to be a compilation of acticles from FineScale Modeler's magazine. So if you have read the magazine before then you will know the basic format of the chapters, where each chapter covers the construction of a model kit from box to shelf. The book covers different techniques from scratchbuilding new parts and altering the planes body, to drybrushing and weathering techniques. Overall I would say for begingers this is a valuable book to have on your shelf, but for experienced modlers I could only recommend it for the refference tables.
